A ROSS CINEMA FILM
CRYSTAL
ISLAND
Filmed over six years on Koh Phangan, Thailand.
Don’t watch it, feel it.
Crystal Island took SIX years to create and has now been officially released open source for everyone to enjoy. I decided against a paywall and will gratefully accept donations for those in the position to contribute. The film was filmed and edited on a zero budget by one person and many peoples free time. If it moved you and you have the means please consider becoming a patron of independent cinema. Every contribution goes directly into the next film." contribution goes directly into the next film."
““The attention to sound design is exquisite. Crystal Island is underscored by an experimental and worldly soundscape that elevates the movie into realms of the sublime.””
Stay in the world of Crystal Island
THE FIVE CHAPTERS
THE STORY BEHIND IT
I started filming Crystal Island in 2019 with no script, no budget, and no plan. Just a borrowed camera, a Thai island, and a feeling I couldn't name. I didn't know I was making a film. I thought I was trying to understand something.
Over six years, the island became the director. Every person who walked into frame gave themselves freely — dancers, healers, fishermen, strangers. Nobody was paid. Nobody asked to be. The jungle held its breath and something real happened in front of the lens.
"I ran seven premieres in the jungle before I ever called it finished. Each one taught me something the edit couldn't. The audience was part of the making."
Crystal Island is inspired by Baraka and Koyaanisqatsi — films that ask you to feel rather than follow. It is divided into five chapters, each one a portal. You are invited to watch it again and again. It will not mean the same thing twice.
