An art house style documentary inspired by films like Baraka and Koyaanisqatsi.

Crystal Island (UK) is a standout indie film by Ross Silcocks, now confirmed to have won "Best Film Essay" at Climax Madrid 2024 and Faro Portugal 2025 alongside Best Dance Film and Best Soundtrack at Lonely Wolf 2023. Its Thailand-shot, zero-budget production and nature-centric narrative have earned it critical and festival acclaim, marking Ross as a rising cinematic voice for nature.

SYNOPSIS

A film to be felt, not watched. "Crystal Island" is an exploration of humanity's deep-seated bond with the natural world. Silcocks prompts us to delve into the depth of our individual emotional landscapes, to confront our egos, our capacity for love, surrender and letting go.

zero budget

Crystal Island was created on a zero budget. It was an important principle of production to not include any exchange of money for the production of this movie. It’s open knowledge that if the film gains revenue it will be split with the cast and crew.

DIRECTORS background

Ross Silcocks has over a decade of video production experience in producing and directing films. At 14 years old Ross won an award for his first animation film. Ross' company Entirety Labs shines in filming global festivals and music events like Tomorrowland and Reading.

location

It was important for the energy of the film to be captured in this one single place which if you’ve been there you will know it tells a story of its own. A short dream sequence involving the Elephant was shot elsewhere in Thailand.

where can i see the film?

SOUNDTRACK review

“Crystal Island is underscored by an experimental and worldly soundscape that elevates the movie into realms of the sublime, it allows the space for something quite mesmerising. Featherlight vocal harmonies meeting the depths of oceans allowing us to feel the emotional resonance frame by frame.”
